The Garlock-Elliot Family

Photograph and Sources

Description: Aurelia Elizabeth ELLIOTT JOHN, daughter of Howard Owen ELLIOTT and Mary Alice HOUSEHOLDER ELLIOTT driving a Fordson Model F tractor pulling a plow on the farm in Hammondsville, Ohio. The levers at the right side of the picture were used to adjust the height of the plow. The Fordson Model F was the first mass-produced affordable tractor. Ford produced them from 1917 to 1928. This model had a tendency to tip over backwards when climbing an incline. To prevent this problem, Ford added extended rear fenders in the mid 1920s. Since the tractor in this photograph does not have fenders, it was either built before the mid 1920s or its fenders were removed.
